Ratatouille (Brad Bird, 2007)

***½
USA

A warm, vibrant Pixar concoction concerning a gourmet rat who refashions a Parisian kitchen. It works best in the bits where there's no dialogue. In its weaker patches it suffers from the contemporary compulsion to make every cartoon hero sound like a snarky teenage girl.

For what it is, I liked Ratatouille and agree with your 3.5 stars. My problems with it were that it was too long, the faux ending and the narrative was too contrived and conventional. The graphics were wonderful, but are not sufficient to carry a film. It could have been sublime had the makers tightened it up a bit and made it a bit more inventive in terms of the writing.
