4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (Cristian Mungiu, 2007)

Finally! In the decade of laureled mediocrities like Elephant and The Son's Room, Cannes has Finally(!!) discovered and awarded with the Palme d'or a film worthy of sharing a category with the likes of The Third Man, The Leopard, The Cranes Are Flying and Virdiana. Comments to come.

I haven't seen this film but will catch it when it gets a theatrical release. I do think, however, that Elephant was a worthy winner. It blew me out of the water when I saw it in the US a few years ago. I think the impact was there because I knew nothing about it when I saw it.

I've already had this argument too many times so I won't start it here, though Elephant is easily the hollowest Palme d'or winner I've seen.

I had this discussion with many staunch defenders over at The Film Experience Blog

I'm not expect this to sail to U.S. shores till at least late 2008. :(

(And I though Elephant was beautiful. Just sayin')
